My Mother Was Hit On The Head In A Car Accident And Has Become A Monster

Strange but true, even a minor impact to the head can trigger a nightmare scenario for the victim and caregivers. Recently, I have had the occasion to closely work with a client of mine who sustained a head trauma and concussion. Although she described the impact as fairly minor, our research and biomechanical evaluation indicated that the impact was not so minor and had resulted in a traumatic brain injury with extraordinary changes in the victim’s personality and behavior.

A recent study by Wells Scientists noted that even a minor bang to the head can trigger a “Jekyll and Hyde” style change in personality. The research was published in The Journal of International Neuropsychological Society and noted that many people who sustained a head injury, no matter how slight, lose the ability to show empathy towards others and these injuries may be revealed by the exhibition of a lack of warmth and affection and an egocentric self centered attitude. As a consequence, these injuries can have a devastating effect on relationships and families. The study further noted that sufferers often then become insensitive to the needs of others, even partners and children with whom pre-accident the person had a warm and loving relationship. Injuries to the brain can lead to “alexithymia” from the Greek meaning “no words or feelings.” It is a deficit in emotional recognition and perception that has been associated with various psychiatric disorders but until recently not with head trauma.

What this means is that if you have been in an automobile accident, it is important that you be diagnosed for symptoms of a concussion and closed head trauma. The experienced car accident lawyers at Reiff and Bily have been handling brain trauma and closed head injuries since 1979 and are available for a free consultation at 1-800-421-9595.
